In 1960, roughly 95% of apparel worn by Americans was made by Americans. Over the last three decades, garment manufacturing has decreased by 80% in the US. The global garment industry has filled the gap, and proven rife with indentured labor, child labor and environmental destruction. As of 2009, only 2% of apparel worn by Americans is made in America. With the rising awareness of the true costs to people and our economy and the environmental destruction plus strong policy support to "Buy American", the number has risen to 3% in 2021. Our mission is to create dignified, life-changing jobs so Americans can still buy high-quality, durable clothing that's made in the US.
Over the past 30 years, most unionized and American clothing factories in the US have shut down. At the same time, the United States is still one of the biggest growers of cotton in the world so there's no excuse for not having 100% domestically produced garments. At Dignity Apparel we're proud to say yes, American cotton, yes American yarn and fabric, and yes cut, sewn, shipped and delivered by union members throughout our value chain. We partner with a respected, highly-skilled unionized workforce to create quality clothing that Americans want to buy.
We exist to create a family-friendly employment environment for our team. We seek to care for team members individually in an equitable manner, provide generous wages and benefits, and create a company culture where people enjoy coming to work.
We value relationships over transactions. We seek to create lasting relationships with our team members, customers, and vendors, supporting them in meeting real needs and realizing their goals over the long-term. We believe the best in one another, seeking to make each other better and putting others before self.
We subscribe to a call to excellence. We seek to be an industry leader in every aspect of our work, and to achieve continually higher levels of quality in what we produce. We are committed to provide outstanding service to all clients, and to working hard each day to find fulfillment in a job well done.
We believe that honesty and integrity are of the utmost importance in how we do our work. Honesty and integrity build trust, and trust is the foundation for strong and successful relationships between coworkers, with our clients, and with our vendors.
We are a workplace where all can work with dignity. We want each team member to realize their full potential, both personally and in their trade, craft, or skill area. Above all we are committed to creating a safe workplace where team members can operate free from fear of harm.
